Jammer dat River/beach wat te duur is, maar met dit resortje heb je ook een prima keuze gemaakt.
Even de Mekong.
Teveel eer om mij een Mekong specialist te noemen, ben er pas 12 maal geweest.
Misschien heb je wel ergens gelezen dat Cai Be niet zo aantrekkelijk is.
Moet dit met klem ontkennen.
Mensen gaan naar Cai Be voor 1 dag; is de dagtrip die je overal kan kopen in Saigon en op internet.
In de late ochtend en de vroege middag is het wat druk, maar na 14 uur is, minimaal 95%, van de touristen weg.
Betekend dat je dan bijna alleen bent in de regio.
Zou het zo doen.
Hoe je het overigens went en keert, je moet rekenen op ongeveer 12 uur reistijd, daar ontkom je niet aan.
Zou gaan van Saigon naar Cai Be en daar overnachten.
Dan keuze:
Of naar Can Tho of naar Chau Doc.
Maakt in overnachtingen niets uit, maar naar Chau Doc 2 a 3 uur reistijd meer.

The program will start with a visit of Cai Be colorful floating market cruising among local barges full of fruits and vegetables by the luxury boat of Mekong Travel Then, an optional stop can be made at local workshops where you can see how to make rice paper, coconut candy and pop-rice, pop-corn… It is so interesting to visit the handicraft village where you can see how they make some special products: making rice-net for spring-rolls, fish sauce & Soya sauce, cooking salt, sewing coconut-leaves for cottage roof…
The best lunch will be served at local house. After lunch, the rowing boat will take you deeper into the countryside on smaller canals and to enjoy the peaceful time. It is so interesting to see traditional houses made of wood and palm tree leaves and see some activities of the local farmers with an opportunity to make contacts with them and see how they catch fish or pick up fruits by ancestral ways in Mekong Delta. Then, we visit nursery garden for you to contact the real famous farmers - Mr Tiger or his son who is very successful in Vietnam agriculture. Have some fruits and tea when enjoying the traditional music at local house.
Check in homestay. One more thing to do in this trip is biking! It will be so amazing to bike on village paths to see the local farms, houses, real life and the ancestral ways to pick up fruits in Mekong Delta. Cooking some dishes with the owners. We enjoy diner and have cup of tea or rice wine when talking together. You can ask the locals about the culture, people, history of this Island. They do not mind to answer some personal questions. Depart at 07:00, drive to Chau Doc. Arriving around noon. Check in at hotel.
At 2.00pm, journey by car on the Tra Su Ecological Gem trip. The Tra Su Nature Reserve is an ecological haven with colonies of bats, over 100 species of water bird, endless waterways and abundant greenery. Walk through this magical secluded forest and voyage through the avenues of half-submerged trees by boat. Reconnect with the glories of the natural world as you enjoy a peaceful afternoon in this protected and unspoilt reserve. See some of the fascinating flora and fauna, and especially the array of birdlife, with the help of your expert guide.
On the way to Tra Su Forest you will visit a local home in a Khmer Village to see palm sugar being produced. Palm trees are very important to the local Khmer (Cambodian) community because all parts of the tree can be used, and here you will see the production of sugar by hand.
Dan overnachten in Chau Doc en de dag erop
The Mekong Delta is a land of winding waterways, lush paddy fields and floating markets where life is governed by the ebb and flow of Vietnam’s most iconic river. Today wake early and cruise aboard a small boat to Chau Doc’s famous floating market. Drawing traders and farmers from the surrounding countryside watch as fruits, vegetables and fish are bought and sold en mass. Continue past the floating fish farms on your way to a local Cham Village, where you will hear the story of one of Vietnam’s most fascinating peoples. After return to your boat and continue crusising towards the iconic Sam Mountain, passing along the fascinating Vinh Te Canal built from 1819 to 1823 by Emperors Gia Long and Minh Mang from the Nguyen Dynasty. Arrive at the banks of Sam Mountain and visit two of the iconic temples that draw pilgrims from miles around.
Na de lunch terug naar Saigon of andere bestemming; aankomst Saigon zou dan zo rond 18 / 19 uur zijn.
Dit is een trip dat bijna helemaal "off the beaten track"is en persoonlijk zou ik er nog een nacht aanplakken, is wat je wil.
Je kan natuurlijk ook het gedeelte Cai Be doen en dan in de late middag naar Can Tho.
Daar overnachten en dan naar de drijvende markt en of nog een nacht Can Tho of na de markt naar Saigon.
Andere optie
Chau Doc - Sa Dec en dan Cai Be ( geen gefiets enz ) en meteen door naar Saigon.
Deze route aangeraden aan backpackers, leden van WW, die ik ben tegengekomen in Saigon januari 2015.
Was helemaal goed, genoten van de natuur in Chau Doc , complimenten naar mij.
Can Tho
Iedereen wil en gaat naar Can Tho, ik ook maar voor een andere reden.
Ik vind Can Tho niet meer een plaatst waar je naar toe moet.
Heeft nog steeds de grootste drijvende markt van Viet Nam, maar deze wordt steeds kleiner.
Dus om 5 uur naar Can Tho te reizen en 5 uur terug naar Saigon is volgens mij verloren tijd.
Ook de kanaaltje in Can Tho en Cai Rang worden nu gecultiveerd ( riet weg en nu beton ).
Wanneer je in Can Tho overnacht, ga dan niet dineren rond Ninh Kieu, maar ga naar het stadion; daar kom je bijna geen touristen tegen en zit je echt tussen de Can Tho-ers en betaal je minder dan de helft voor een flesje bier ( Tiger ).
Chau Doc is nu nog alleen maar een plaats voor mensen die de boten nemen naar PP, maar die niet 5 km verder het achterland in gaan wat helemaal geweldig is.
Je hebt er hostels, goedkope hotels, dure hotels, middelklasse hotels, keuze genoeg.
Ook verbindingen naar Can Tho, Saigon, Sa Dec geen probleem.
Laat het hier even L, maar wil je nog meer Mekong advies, laat het even weten.
Kan je nog wel wat meer ideeen geven.
