Hallo allemaal,
Dit jaar willen wij met een groep van 3 personen naar Namibie op vakantie. Hiervoor hebben wij een mooi aanbod gekregen van Maui/Britz. Het gaat om een 14 daagse begeleide rondreis, zie hieronder:
14 day Safari. – HIGHLIGHTS: Windhoek, Etosha, Damaraland, Kaokoland, Epupa Falls, Himba culture, Van Zyl’s Pass, Marien Fluss, Desert Elephants, Swakopmund.
day 1 & 2 – Etosha (7th July 2012)
Your 4x4 off-road adventure starts with a departure from our depot in Windhoek at 08:00. We travel north on the B1 highway via Otjiwarongo and Outjo to the Etosha National Park. Our camp for the night is at the Okaukuejo-rest camp. We have time for a game-drive in the area of Okaukuejo. Later in the evening we go to the flood-lit waterhole which borders the camp, where you can sit back and relax while the animals come to drink until deep into the night. (+ 450km)
day 3 – Otjitotongwe Kamanjab (9th July 2012)
This is home to the “Save the Cheetah” project. Today is probably a once in a lifetime experience to interact with a cheetah cat @ 16h00. Get up close and personal with the tame cheetah and feed the wild cheetahs. A cool swimming pool is at your disposal. There are optional bush walk excursions available. No electricity available use gas / fire to cook.
day 4 – Opuwa (10th July 2012)
Today we refuel and stock up our supplies for the next few days This area is home to the Himba people. We camp at the local lodge.
day 5 & 6 – Epupa Falls (11th July 2012)
We leave early in the morning and travel north moving on to Epupa Falls. (± 240km).We set up camp for the next 2 nights on the palm tree lined banks of the Kunene River. On day 6 our program includes a visit to the falls and the surrounding area, as well as the highlight of a visit to a traditional Himba village.
Off-road driver training is carried out today on one of the steep rocky tracks in the area of the campsite. This will prepare us for the off-road driving that lies ahead during the next couple of days.
Kaokoveld
Located in the far north-west, Kaokoland is one of the particularly untouched regions in Namibia. Thebarely accessible area south of the Kunene River is the home of the Himba ethnic group, who has kept their ethnic individuality and culture in the seclusion of Kaokoland. Travelling through this region is only possible under expedition-like conditions in off-road vehicles and, furthermore, should only be done under the leadership of an experienced guide. Tracks are hardly signposted, corrugated and extremely stoney or sandy.
day 7 – Van Zyl’s Pass (13th July 2012)
We backtrack to Okangwati and head for Otjitanda. The total distance is only 140 km. But we will probably take most of the day to get there, depending on the road conditions. We overnight in the wild, close to the top of the Van Zyl’s Pass.(± 140 km)
day 8– Purros
Today we travel down the steep Van Zyl’s Pass with its panoramic views of the plains and the Marienfluss. We turn south to Purros on the Hoarusib River, where we overnight at the campsite next to the Riverbed. In the late afternoon we search for the desert elephants. The “Fairy Circles” are found on-route this morning. (± 230km)
day 9– Sesfontein (15th July 2012)
After a leisurely drive we arrive at Sesfontein. We camp at the local Fig-Tree community campsite. The Sesfontein Lodge is well worth a visit albeit for dinner or an afternoon sun downer. The establishment dates from the Second World War and served as a German military fort.
day 10 – Palmwag
Another day traveling through this wild and remote area in search for real wild game. Our route takes us south into Damaraland where we camp at the Palmwag campsite in the heart of Damaraland. Time permitting we will stop at a natural desert oasis. Palmwag also offers lodge accommodation, swimming pools, restaurant, bar, etc. (± 120 km)
day 11 – Khorixas (17th July 2012)
We have ample time to explore the area; we visit the Burnt Mountain, the Rock Engravings and the Organ Pipes before continuing to our overnight venue where we set up camp.
day 12 – Brandberg
Today we travel further south to the largest island mountain in Namibia. On-route we pass a lunar surface and marvel at the majestic scenery of this desert land. Where we set up camp at White Lady campsite. (± 220 km)
day 13 – Swakopmund (19th July 2012)
Today we travel westwards to the Atlantic Ocean and then head south to Swakopmund. We spend our last evening in this quaint German style town. In the afternoon there are numerous “sand dune” activies available. Dinner at the famous Tug Restaurant is a must (for own account).
day 14 – Windhoek (20th July 2012)
We drive back to Windhoek via Okahandja. Lunch will be taken en-route. (± 389 km). After the vehicle is returned, you will be transferred to your Hotel or other venue in Windhoek. End of services.
Groeten Gert
