toen werd één aanleg steiger geblokkeerd doordat een vrachtwagen met de cabine
half over de kade hing
nu lees ik dat een tankwagen geheel in het kanaal van de indische oceaan is gevallen

ja het moest er toch eens van komen

Nairobi — The Kenyan government is yet again expected to embark on another major infrastructure project after the Thika superhighway, after receiving Sh28.9 billion from Japan for the construction of the Mombasa Port area road project, also known as the Dongo Kundu bypass.
The construction of the bypass is aimed at decongesting the city of Mombasa, by providing an alternative to the Likoni ferry crossing by linking the mainland with the South Coast.
Once completed, the project will also facilitate access, mobility and transportation of goods and passengers from the South Coast to other parts of the country as well as neighbouring countries.
Signing the loan agreement, Finance Minister Njeru Githae said the bypass will further complement the ongoing expansion of the Mombasa Port and contribute to higher economic development in the coastal region and the country as a whole.
“This project, Dongo Kundu, is even bigger than the Nairobi Thika superhighway, which was at cost of Sh28 billion. This is Sh29 billion. So, that talk of MRC that they are neglected is pure propaganda. The Japanese government has helped us to construct Nyali Bridge… very expensive, Mtwapa Bridge, Kilifi Bridge and Sabaki Bridge. With the exception of Lamu Port, this will be the biggest project undertaken by government,” said Githae.
Roads Minister Franklin Bett said the government does not have land in the area but will have to negotiate with the owners and compensate them.
He says he has already instructed the Kenya National Highway Authorities to start land procurement on the corridor.
"The process is now going to start and I request all the land owners to cooperate with us. Because the ultimate thing we want is a road to make things easy for us, for social economic development. So I want to urge them, to provide that support and to participate fully, "said Bett.
Bett also urged for the construction to start in early 2014 rather than in 2015, by shortening the time given for the tendering process and consultation.
Since the beginning of bilateral cooperation between Kenya and Japan, Kenya has received cumulative financial support of Sh418.94 billion.
"We agreed with the government of Kenya that it was crucial to construct a link road that connects the new container terminal of the Mombasa port, with a Northern corridor. We also agreed that a link road was necessary to; connect Dongo Kundu area to enables south coast of Mombasa, to develop, "said Japanese Ambassador to Kenya during the signing ceremony.
The Dongo Kundu project has been in the pipeline for decades.
Meanwhile the Roads Minister announced plans to revive the Nairobi Eastern bypass project which collapsed last year.
Currently permanent secretaries from his ministry and the Finance Ministry are in Washington in the United States, negotiating with the World Bank to provide funding for the project.
The whole project is expected to cost $400million (Sh34bilion) with the government contributing $100 million (Sh8.5billion) and the World Bank $300 million (Sh25.5billion).

er kan soms een flinke stroming zijn
en er passeren ook grote zee schepen die naar de haven van mombas gaan
ook als de ferry weer gaat varen kan het gevaarlijk worden
een ieder wil dan als eerste op de ferry
en bestormd men de ferry ben blij dat ik er nu niet over hoef
heb een keer meegemaakt dat men de ferry bestormde terwijl wij er nog niet eens van de ferry af waren
En…wie weet hoe het er nu voor staat met de ferry?
Stel…ik wil van Mombasa airport naar Ukunda, en de ferry ligt er (waarschijnlijk of zeker) uit, is vliegen naar Ukunda airstrip dan een goede optie, en wie weet hoe dat snel te regelen is en hoe duur enzo?
Wat me dan ook leuk lijkt, is om een paar van mijn vrienden in Ukunda mee te laten vliegen naar Mombasa airport om mij op te halen. Denk dat ze dat een fantastisch avontuur zouden vinden. (maar heb het ze nooit gevraagd :-))

Vreselijk, ik leef mee met de nabestaanden. Weet niet goed hoe ik het moet uitleggen, maar heb de afgelopen tijd weer een paar keer gebruik gemaakt van de Likoni Ferry, ken de situatie, en het raakt me diep.
het zijn vaak de vrachtwagens die problemen veroorzaken
we weten toch dat men vaak met slechte gladde banden rijden en de remerij is vaak ook niet in orde
als er een benzine of gas vrachtwagen oversteekt is het verboden voor passagiers om mee te reizen
uit veiligheids redenen,
zou voor alle vrachtwagens moeten gelden, één ferry alleen voor vracht !
ook zou men de helling minder stijl kunnen maken, met name bij laag water is de helling vrij stijl
Die helling is inderdaad een miserie .Toen ik er laatst met een bus passeerde moesten we op de volgende ferry wachten omdat anders de bus zich zou vastrijden .Zelfs zig-zaggend op en afrijden geeft nog schurende geluiden als de bodem van de bus de
ramp raakt.

The Kenya Ferry Service has launched the use of weighbridges for vehicles plying the Likoni Ferry Channel. The bridges became operational on Monday. They are expected to improve safety and ferry services at the channel. The Sh18 million weighbridges on the island and Likoni mainland ramps are part of plans to regulate and monitor ferry capacity to improve safety. dubbel lijkt me een beetje overdreven
het ging lang goed ,maar er is weer een probleem met één of meerdere ferry

Vorige week wederom enorme rijen en lange wachttijden. Soms wel soms niet
Gelukkig hadden wij een taxi gereserveerd met priority sticker
het kost wat meer,maar je mag er gewoon langs
kan ik iedereen aanbevelen
simpele oplossing is onderweg :

de ferry’s zijn al jaren overbelast en daardoor wordt er ook niet genoeg onderhoud gepleegd
van de vijf ferry’s zij er twee in bedrijf !
de ander drie hebben motor pech of liggen gestrand op de kade !
nu spreekt men weer over een brug, maar dat gaat nog jaren duren!

Het is nu zo erg dat je er zelfs met een priority pass niet meer doorkomt. Onze gasten vliegen daarom van Diani naar Msa met Mombasa Air. Als dat aansluit met je vertrektijden een goed alternatief. Andere mogelijkheid is Jambo jet of Jambo air vanaf Diani naar Nairobi. Zijvliegen twee keer per dag.
Heb proberen te kijken wat een vlucht kost tussen Nairobi en Diani. De site werkt niet mee… Enig idee wat een gemiddelde prijs is voor deze vlucht? Het gaat om een retour eind mei heen en half juni weer terug.
