Drakensberg and Lesotho Part 1
Hello everyone!
Welcome to another chapter in my South Africa trip.
I hope everyone is doing well!
As could be read in my message of a few days ago, I have been to Drakensberg and Lesotho in a 3 day trip.
What a shear beauty!!
One of the most beautiful places I have been so far!
It all started last friday. At 1pm we where picked up at the hostel we stay in. It was one of the local busses. They call it public transport but its more like they all are in a local race who gets at there destination first. Driving 120 where 80 is allowed…Red lights are seen as Green lights… You get the point… We had to pick up some of the the others we had met in the earlier hostel. They were waiting at there own projects.
About half an hour later we had picked everyone and we were on our way. A 3 hour trip would follow. The further we went outside the city, the nicer the country side became. Hills turned in Mountains and little streams into proper rivers. The south african experience was now really starting.
The 3 hours gave us time to catch up on eachothers projects. Everyone had a great time at there projects.
In the middle of a vast mountain side, we found our first sleeping place. A 4 star hostel conveniently located at the base of Drakensberg (Dragon mountain). Me and Djuun stayed in the ‘Eland’ room. Fact: Eland here does not mean the winter creature seen in the colder countries. This is a Bambi like creature with straight white hornes. A deer.
In the hostel we had to fill in some paperwork for our trip into lesotho. The top of Drakensberg is one of the borders into Lesotho. Fact: Lesotho is also called Kingdom in the sky as its the country with the highest land in the world. The lowest point is a staggering 2400 meters high.
A little later we found ourselfs eating a nice meal in the restaurant attached to the hostel.
That night we met another dutch guy who came out of Johannesburg. He joined our trip onto Drakenberg and Lesotho.
Early that nights these eyes of mine closed…
My battery of the laptop is geting low so will keep it like this for now.
Tomorrow my trip to Hluhluwe. A reserve where I hope to see the Big 5 will start!!
I will update soon! Attached are some photos I made!
All the best!
