Red chaos in the Northeast

Anti-government protesters in the northeastern provinces of Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani created unrest and destroyed public properties on Wednesday night after many leaders of the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) surrendered to the police earlier in the afternoon.
Reports said Bangkok Bankâs Khon Kaen branch was totally obliterated by a group of demonstrators, who later travelled to Bhumjaithai Party MP Prachak Kaewklaharnâs home. Clashes between the protesters and security guards erupted and at least six people were injured.
In Ubon Ratchathani, a number of protesters burned tyres and the provincial city hall. The entire building was destroyed. The protesters also clashed with authorities. Two demonstrators were shot dead and five people were wounded. The anti-government group then gathered at a community radio station led by UDD co-leader Thirapat Watcharapol.

Chiang Mai Reds on rampage

The red shirt bikers in Chiang Mai ignored the curfew, coming out in force to set fires to car tyres in several places throughout Chiang Mai and attacked several Bangkok Bankâs branches according to Thai Rath website.
Two fire trucks were set ablaze. Newin Chidchob father in lawâs Chiang Mai Construction Co building suffered extensive damages and was torched.
However, the people in the buiding were prepared and could extinguish the fire.
The police and soldiers are now on motorcyle patrol to confront the red shirt bikers.

Century Park hotel set ablaze

The Century Park hotel located around Din Daeng area was set on fire on Wednesday night, according to television reports.
Authorities were still unable to control the fire as of 9pm.
Center One shopping mall was also set ablaze in the evening, reports said.
A 7 Eleven shop in the area was also looted.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported at 9pm that buildings at 27 locations have been set on fire on Wednesday.

DSI warns protesters of death penalty

People who set fire to public properties could face terrorism charges, and security forces are now allowed to use live ammunition to end the widespread turbulence in the country immediately, Department of Special Investigations director-general Tharit Pengdit said on Wednesday.
The governmentâs Centre for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) has warned that people who are guilty of terrorism charges could face a possible death penalty.
âSecurity forces have been allowed to use firearm to prevent terrorist acts, and the government would like to warn the ill-intentioned people to stop creating unrest,â Mr Tharit said.
He said people who attempted to obstruct authorities from performing their duty could also face a maximum penalty.
âThere are groups of people who are burning state offices and public places. The DSI would like to warn these people that they could face a death sentence,â the DSI chief warned.
Metropolitan Police deputy speaker Songpol Wattanachai said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjaijva had ordered the police to set up checkpoints in different areas and use absolute measures to prevent terrorist acts and protect peopleâs lives and properties.
He said the police had prepared cars to transport people back to their residences.

Nou ik baal er ook van!!! Deze zomer was de planning voor het eerst een echt verre reis te maken en voor het eerst 5 weken weg te gaan en voor het eerst backpacken! Kortom allemaal nieuwe dingen! Spannende, leuke, nieuwe ervaringen! En zeker na de berichten van de mensen die al een keer of vaker in Thailand zijn geweest had ik er zoveeeel zin in! En valt alles een beetje ineen. W gaan pas begin augustus dus blijf nog positief, want er kan veel veranderen van nu tot dan. Maar het is natuurlijk vreselijk voor de mensen daar, hier, overal!
Leef ook echt mee met de mensen die hun vakantie moeten verzetten of die toch gaan maar niet weten wat ze zullen âaantreffenâ.
Hoop dat de rust in Thailand snel terug gevonden wordt!

CentralWorld to collapse

The burning CentralWorld shopping complex is starting to collapse, Pathum Wanaram Temple community member Boonlert Klaipook said on Wednesday night.
The flames at one of Thailandâs major shopping centres and landmarks were starting to calm down, Mr Boonlert said at around 22.40pm.
CentralWorld was believed to be set on fire by anti-government protesters in the evening after some leaders of the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) surrendered to the police in the afternoon.
Mr Boonlert said more than 60 CentralWorld staff were now resting at Pathum Wanaram Temple.

Jomtien /Pattaya
Vanavond is ook hier de situatie niet echt leuk te noemen, om 8 acht is alles dicht gegaan het begon met de grote shoppings malls , de winkels ,de bars daarna politie door de straten iedereen moest terug naar de hotels etc. Zijn hier ook erg bang dat het escaleert , er wonen/werken hier wat ik begreep ongeveer 2000 " rode shirts" Momenteel zitten wij ook in een totaal donker en verlaten Jomtien in ons hotel. Morgen ochtend maar weer kijken hoe het er voor staat. Erg vreemd om te zien hoe in een uur heel Pattaya waar wij op dat moment wilden gaan eten veranderd in een wirwar van mensen die mee wilde in taxi of busje en toch een beetje in paniek raakte.
