Seh Daeng’s aide arrested

Pichet Sukjindathong, the right-hand man of the late Maj-Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol, or Seh Daeng, has been arrested, the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) announced on Tuesday.

The CRES believes Mr Pichet is one of the people behind the many clashes between red-shirt guards and government forces.

Mr Pichet is being held for interrogation at a detention centre at Klong 5 in Pathum Thani province.

The CRES called on members of the mass media and the people in general to send pictures and video clips of the violence to police, so that wrongdoers could be arrested.

The centre stressed that police and soldiers would not use their weapons against unarmed civilians, but would use them to counter armed attacks by terrorists.

The centre described United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) co-leader Natthawut Saikua as one of the major terrorist figures.

Maj-Gen Khattiya, a highly controversial and hardline red-shirt supporter, died on Monday morning after being shot in the head by a sniper last Thursday.

Ik denk toch dat de premier dit gaat verliezen.
Teveel slachtoffers, enorme internationale druk om tot gesprekken te komen cq wapenstilstand.
Toerisme wat wegblijft,winkels ,kantoren en scholen dicht.

Er moet dus onderhandeld worden dat lijkt me de enige uitweg.

Premier lijdt gezichtsverlies momenteel. Eerst een ultimatum aan de UDD (roodhemden) stellen tot gisteren 15:00 uur en vervolgens niks doen. Hoe geloofwaardig komt dat over op de rest van de wereld !

Maar met vechten los je niks op…er moet idd onderhandeld worden en een weg uit deze impasse gevonden worden. Elk slachtoffer is er een teveel of deze nu rood, geel of welke kleur dan ook is.

Het land lijdt een gigantische schade op dit moment. Zoals Searcher al aangeeft zijn vele winkels al dagenlang gesloten, schoolvakantie is nu weer met een paar dagen verlengd en toeristen blijven weg. Gisteren hoorde ik een verslaggever al zeggen dat Bangkok een spookstad was.

Soi 4 (Sukhumvit-Nana) is dus ook al geblokt door het leger en alle bars die hier zitten zijn ook gesloten.

Abhisit moet laten zien dat hij toch een wijs man is en opstappen…hij heeft niet de ballen om dit land op een goede manier te leiden.

Cops ban sale of used, spare tyres

All police stations in Bangkok have been ordered to seize used tyres and spare tyres from warehouses and shops in the capital after protesters burned tyres on the streets during their clashes with security forces.

Metropolitan Police chief Santhan Chayanont said the order is aimed at denying protesters access to more tyres.

Shops must get permission from superintendents of police stations in their areas if they sell old tyres and give reasons for the sale.

Tthe Medical Council of Thailand warned on Tuesday the smoke from burning tyres could be carcinogenic if inhaled in large amounts.

Air polluted with toxic substances could also worsen the problems of people with heart disease and asthma, Dr Somsak Loelaeka, head of the council, said.

En de premier slaat niet toe daar er nog vrouwen , kinderen en bejaarden in het kamp zijn .
En Thaksin is dus toch ziek ( kanker ).

Vooral het stuk dat de omliggende landen mee getrokken worden in een mogelijke economische meltdown,daar kan ik me geheel in vinden.

Er moet als het ware een reddingsplan worden opgesteld.

Het lijkt erop en dat hebben bijvoorbeeld de Roden al eerder gezegd dat zij zonder het woord je hebt verloren het toneel verlaten.

Gezichtsverlies lijkt nu het belangrijkste issue te zijn althans dat is mijn mening.

Jakarta calls for Asean Summit on Thai riots

SINGAPORE: – President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has sent a letter to the Asean chairman (Vietnam), asking for a summit meeting to address the security situation in Thailand.

Indonesia’s Antara news agency quoted Yudhoyono as saying that Asean needed to have a common and constructive stance with regard to the current situation in Thailand, an Asean member country.

Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of his working visit to Singapore Monday evening, the president said as the world is paying attention, it would certainly not be good if Asean does nothing.

“I think there must be an exchange of views. We must show that we care,” he said.

Moreover, Asean also had a charter expressing the need to form a common community in 2015.

Without wishing to interfere deeply into the domestic affairs of Thailand, he said, it would be appropriate for Asean to give support to the Thai government to settle its problem well and avoid any form of violence.

President Yudhoyono recalled that the 1997/1998 monetary crisis had begun with a crisis of the Thai baht which later spread to other Asian countries and that Indonesia was among the countries hardest hit by the meltdown.

“The crisis now is different but something constructive has to be done,” he said.

Citing an analogy, he said the European Union had immediately met and coordinated to save one of its members, Greece, which was in a crisis due to its huge debt burden.

Asean, he said, could do the same to help Thailand overcome its political crisis that had now begun to disrupt the security situation.

At the meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loon at the Botanic Garden, President Yudhoyono had also taken up the Thai crisis issue.

The Asean chairmaship is now held by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

Hmmm…denk dat de koning geen toespraak zal gaan houden… Hij is oud, ziekjes en heeft in het verleden al zoveel ellende als (militaire) coups e.d. meegemaakt.
En wat ik heb begrepen staat de koningin (Sirikit) achter de geelhemden…

Maar het zou misschien wel goed zijn als hij even kort op tv komt. Geel, rood en alle andere kleuren in Thailand, ze houden allemaal van hun koning en hij zou het land misschien weer enigszins kunnen verenigen…

Ik vind hem er onbetrouwbaar uit zien…

Ik heb wel enige sympathie voor de beweegredenen van de roodhemden om te demonstreren (echter heb ik GEEN sympathie voor de rellen en het vechten, begrijp me niet verkeerd), maar ik wil niet dat Thaksin ooit terugkomt.
We kunnen er lang of kort over discussieren, feit is dat deze regering niet op democratische manier aan de macht is gekomen.

Vanuit het buitenland steunt hij deze demonstraties dus gewoon door geld te doneren. Ondertussen is meneer lekker zelf luxe aan het shoppen in een Louis Vuitton winkel in Parijs, terwijl aanhangers van hem vechten in de straten van Bangkok.

Het is een feit dat hij veel voor de arme bevolking heeft betekend toen hij PM was…maar hij heeft ook dingen gedaan die niet door de beugel kunnen.

Govt: Talks only after rally ends

The government will hold talks with the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship only after it ends its protest rally, PM’s Office Minister Sathit Wongnongtoey announced in a televised statement at the Centre for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) on Tuesday.

He was responding to the UDD’s acceptance of Senate Speaker Prasopsuk Boondej’s offer to mediate talks with the government.

The acceptance of Mr Prasopsuk’s as mediator was announced by UDD co-leader Nathawut Saikua on Tuesday.

Mr Sathit said the government had all along adhered to the line of solving political conflict through negotiation. However, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s reconciliation plan had been rejected by the UDD, apparently on directions from abroad by a “manipulator”.

He said the government attached importance to the senate speaker’s offer to mediate talks and the prime minister had called Mr Prasopsuk to thank him and explain the government’s standpoint - that the government will negotiate only after the UDD has ended its rally.

Mr Prasopsuk had acknowledged this standpoint, Mr Sathit said.

The government and CRES wanted to return peace to society and minimise losses, but the situation had become more serious, with considerable impacts, and the only way of solving the problem was to end the rally so that terrorists would not be able to use the protests as a pretext to act against the authorities.

Acting government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said the government would continue with its operation to force an end to the rally.

Mr Prasopsuk said he would send three senate representatives to discuss this matter with UDD leaders this evening.

Onderhandelingen tussen regering en UDD zijn dus nog steeds mogelijk…alleen moeten de roodhemden dan eerst hun rally stoppen.

En dat is nu juist het probleem…willen de roodhemden de rally wel eerst stoppen om daarna pas te onderhandelen. Is dit geen gezichtsverlies in de ogen van de roodhemden omdat dit op een ‘verlies’ voor hen lijkt ?

Ben wel benieuwd, ofdat de koningsfeesten einde van het jaar(Dec)zullen doorgaan?
Het zou dan jammer zijn,heb mij goed geamuseerd gedurende de hele week!!Wandelen op de hoofdstraten,de “laser shows” de talrijke groepen die dagelijks optraden in verschillende muziekstijlen en het afsluitingsceremonie(200000mensen in roze shirts die toen aanwezig waren+georgessiam)

Fire breaks out at Siam City Bank Din Daeng

NBT station reported at 7 pm that a fire broke out at the Siam City Bank, Din Daeng branch.

It said fire trucks could not be deployed to put out the blaze because the road was blocked by huge piles of rubber tyres.

The fire was starting at the time of the report.

Reds to disperse if troops leave

Red-shirts will not disperse from the rally site until troops are withdrawn, United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) leader Jatuporn Prompan said on Tuesday evening.

Soldiers have to pull back first because protesters are not ready to be killed by troops, he said.

He spoke after PM’s Office Minister Sathit Wongnongtoey announced in a televised statement that negotiations with the UDD will not happen until it ends its rally.
