Traveling To Cuba With Our Baby?!

Hello everybody!

July this year we are traveling from Holland to Cuba, Holguin, Hotel Brisas gualdalavaca with our one year old daugther.
Is there anybody who can inform us about this worldtrip with our youngster?
What about vaccinations, deseases, climate or traveltips during our flight and stay in Cuba.
We would like to have information from people who have been there with small children.
Our travelagent sais its ok, but we would like to have information from people who have been there around July.
If you think this trip will be a danger to our child, please tell us then we book a different destination.
Thank you already and kind regards from holland!

Nobody replied to our questions jet.
Could anybody help us, getting information about the hotel?
Brisas Guardalavaca.
And about traveling to Cuba with a oneyear old?
Thanks already!

Most information you are asking can only be accurate by the Cuban Ambassy, I think that is why nobody is replying. You can probably also get this information at Nuffic or at the responsible ministries in the Netherlands.

Also a look at the website of the touristboard website can be helpfull. I am not really known with the south-east of cuba, so I can not really help you.

Hi,

I don’t have small children, but I have been in Santiago de Cuba in July last year. The only thing I would like to say is that July really is the hottest time a year. Guardalavaca probably is a bit better, because it is more north east than Santiago, but still… I don’t know how small children can handle heat.

Further, are you going to travel through Cuba? Or are you just going to stay in Guardalavaca?

Traveling through Cuba is not dangerous at all, especially if you are staying in hotels. Those are government property and most of the time pretty good. Casa particulares are very good too, but most of the time not fitted out for small children.

About vaccinations, there are lots of websites with information about that. I always check http://www.lcr.nl, but that is a website in dutch…

Cuba is a beautiful country to visit, so I really would recommend it! It is just a pitty that your youngster is too young to remember a thing of this trip…

Kind regards,
Caroline

Hi,

We’ve travelled to Cuba a couple of times. First time my daughter was 15 months old. We stayed in casas particulares and traveled by car/taxi or sometimes bicitaxi. We’ve also been on the beatiful beaches of Guardalavaca. I really don’t see any problems for you when you’re staying in a resort. In these resorts you’ll find a lot of luxury and you’ll notice that cubans are extremely friendly towards children. Regarding to the heat you just need to use your senses, so use a lot of suncream, let you’re baby drink a lot of water, and stay in the shade of a coconut tree during the hottest hours. Go into the pool or swim in the sea during the morning or late afternoon. Although our daughter can not be stopped and wants to be in the water the entire day. Another thing which might set you at ease, Cuba is the best place in Latin America to find a very well educated doctor. And because you’re a tourist you’ll not find any difficulties at finding the right medicines when you need them.
Well hopefully this information helps you to relax and look forward to your trip to Cuba.

We went to Cuba a year ago with our daughter (then 12 months old), we stayed for a week at a hotel in Guardalavaca, then went for 10 days to Santiago (to a particular house) and then back to Holguin for another week before flying back to Holland.
We didn’t have any big problems. A couple of advises: take enough diapers with you, at least for the first week you’ll be there. Never, ever drink water from the tap. A lot of suncream.
Cubans are ussually friendly people, especially with children, so start getting used to the idea of people coming to you and saying “what a beautiful baby”.
Our daughter never got sick, we didn’t give her any vaccinations, personally I think it is a way of earning money for the health organizations here in Holland when they advise you that you must take so many shots against deseases before going to Cuba, when the World Health Organization says that those deseases don’t exist there. Anyway, it is your child and your money.
About the weather, expect 32-33 degrees and a lot of sun. Keeping ypur child out of the sun at noon would be a good idea.
I shouldn’t worry about safety, it is safe there! Just don’t try to be with your child late in the evening in a neighbourhood you don’t know.
If you decide to stay at a particular house I can give you a couple of addresses where we stayed with our daughter without any problems. I can write also in Spanish.
