Pionieren in Ethiopië!
Hoi iedereen!
Zoals velen van jullie weten wilde ik altijd al als vrijwilliger op een project in het buitenland werken. En afgelopen dinsdag kreeg ik te horen dat ik mag beginnen in Ethiopië! In oktober ga ik 2 maanden met heel veel enthousiasme en passie mij inzetten voor de mensen daar.
Heel veel kan ik jullie nog niet vertellen, omdat ik het zelf ook nog niet weet. Be More heeft al projecten in Zuid-Afrika, Malawi en Uganda. Sinds september hebben ze er een nieuw land bij, Ethiopië. Op dit ogenblik zit er een groep vrijwilligers die de 2 uitgekozen projecten aan het verkennen is.
Dit is wat ik wel weet :-). Ik zal werkzaam zijn in Awasa, een stad ongeveer 300 km (5 uur rijden) ten zuiden van de hoofdstad Addis Abeba.
Er zijn twee projecten gekozen. De eerste is een community empowerment project en de ander is een project dat is opgezet door een blinde man. Hij maakt zich sterk voor dove, blinde en gehandicapten zodat zij op hun eigen school kunnen blijven. De gekozen projecten worden geleid door gepassioneerde mensen die echt wat willen veranderen.
Het leuke aan deze projecten is dat je de opbouw meemaakt. Niks is zeker en alles moet nog uitgezocht worden. Je bent echt aan het pionieren!
Wat ik nu als eerste in Nederland moet doen weet ik wel. Mijn vliegticket regelen, mijn vaccinaties halen en mij inlezen in Ethiopië.

Hi everyone!
As most of you know I have been looking to work as a volunteer on a project abroad and I found one. Wednesday I heard my application has been approved. In October I am going to Ethiopia for two months!
Be More has projects in South-Africa, Uganda and Malawi and as from September they are starting in Ethiopia. I can’t tell you much about it yet because everything is still work in progress so to speak and that is what makes it so exiting. Right now the first volunteers are scoping out the projects, and what I heard about them so far they sound amazing! Just before I leave I will know what my project is going to be.
This is what I do know :-). Im going to be stationed in Awasa. Awasa is a 5 hour drive (300 km) down south from the capital Addis Abeba. There are two projects at the moment. One is a community empowerment programme, the second is a community centre set up by a blind man. He helps people who are blind or deaf or physically disabled so they can get an education and stay in school. The projects are being run by people who are passionate and really want to change something. But nothing is set in stone yet as they say. Just before I leave I will know where I will be working from 24th of October till the 16th of December.
Most important thing I have to do right now is book my flight, get my shots and read up about the country.
