‘Having no experience with teaching, nor with working with children, I was quite worried whether I would be able to cope in the beginning. However, already after our first visit to the Burmese Learning Centre, those fears melted away. Though the material conditions of the school are quite deplorable and though the level of English of the children is quite low - which makes it harder to convey a message -, the reactions of the children to everything you do makes the general atmosphere at school very agreeable. It makes you completely forget about the bad state the school is in. There are of course tough days when the things you are trying to teach do not seem to sink in and you come home exhausted, but the next day you always look forward to go to school again. I have not even for a second regretted the decision to volunteer at the Burmese Learning Centre. The children are fantastic and make everything worthwhile. It has been one of the most pleasant experiences of my life and I would love to come back for another four weeks.’
Groetjes
