Winkels, restaurantjes en de geweldige boekwinkel Pilgrims gingen vandaag in vlammen op
KATHMANDU, MAY 17 -
Fire fighters have been still struggling to douse the blaze in Thamelarea.
The blaze sparked at around 9 Thursday night after gas cylinders stored in Faces Lounge, a restaurant, located behind Shisha Terrace Café and Bar exploded, sources confirmed.
The raging fire then spread into the neighboring houses built in cluster in the alley opposite the Kathmandu Guest House inThamel , engulfing three houses, shops, restaurants and Pilgrims Book House, one of the biggest book stores in the Capital.
Fire brigades from Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur and over 200 security personnel, locals, have been struggling to douse the leaping flames in the narrow streets of Thamel till this hour.
Three persons have sustained injuries in the incident. They have been undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. However, no human casualties have been reported so far, according to Ram Sharan Thapaliya, Vice Chairman of Thamel Tourism Development Committee.
As per the preliminary investigation, property worth million has been gutted in the fire .
Thamel is a popular tourist destination in Kathmandu. It has been the centre of the tourist industry for over four decades.
