Het zal een stuk rustiger worden daar!
Nog even en we kunnen gewoon naar beekse bergen gaan. Wat naar dit. Krijg je straks allemaal weg wijs borden in het park en gekleurde paaltjes. Daarnaast 5 min. max naar een dier kijken is ook niet echt prettig als je leeuwen voor de kill ziet gaan. Ben benieuwd ook wat ze van selfdrive verwachten, we rijden met twee auto’s moeten we nu 300 meter achter elkaar gaan rijden? lekker gezellig.
In het Kruger Park is het al jaren zo en voor mij geen beletsel om dit prachtige park te bezoeken.
Met twee 4x4’s is een walkie talkie een must en kun je alles delen met elkaar 
Hoewel de nieuwe regulering in de Chobe Riverfront area van Chobe NP ook grote consequenties heeft voor onze klanten ben ik eigenlijk wel een voorstander van betere/strakkere regels. Het liep natuurlijk de spuigaten uit de laatste jaren…
Nu het lijkt dat er meer beperkingen komen aldaar ben ik alleen wel benieuwd hoe ze de uitvoering ‘handen en voeten’ gaan geven. Lijkt mij allemaal nog niet zo eenvoudig. En wat zijn de consequenties voor de Self Drivers die een campsite hebben geboekt op Ihaha?

Effective February 1, 2012
Over 75 vehicles enter the Chobe NP at Sedudu Gate everyday. This includes day trippers, camp and lodge vehicles, mobile safari operators and self drive vehicles. Often in peak hours and high season, scenarios like what has happened in the Masai Mara and Ngoro Crater - too many vehicles on wildlife sightings and related issues, has contributed to the DWNP designing a new convuluted system to make our safari experience more difficult.
We must now deal with a reservation system of route(s) usage. Lodges, camps, safari operators will be have the early morning and late afternoon hour time slots available for their exclusive use. Day-trippers and self drive, midday.
Seasonal period Tour operators Self drives and day trippers
1st April – 30th September Morning: 0600-0900 hrs 0900-1430hrs
Afternoon: 1430-1830hrs
1st October - 31st March Morning:0530-0900hrs 0900-1430hrs
Afternoon: 1430-1900hrs
If you are booked at Ihaha campsite, you must enter at the Nantanga entrance, (also called route 15) which takes one straight to Ihaha. If you want to game drive on the river front, you must book the day and time slot, up to 7 days in advance, based on availability of space (limited to 25 vehicles in that midday time slot each day).
It is not clear yet on how one goes about booking this reservation except at Sedudu Gate. Extra fees have been proposed for each route, 3 routes in total.
CHOBE NATIONAL PARK VISITORS CODE OF CONDUCT
The aim of this code of conduct is to enhance the quality of experience and safety offered to visitors to Chobe National Park and to ensure the sustainability of its ecotourism.
GAME DRIVES
Entry into the park should always be at designated entry points where payments are made.
A reasonable following distance of 300 to 500m should be kept between vehicles.
Maximum driving speed should be 40km/hr.
Only four vehicles are allowed per sighting and a maximum of 5 minutes should be spent by each vehicle.
Parking should be done with two-side wheels on the road and the other two-side wheels off the road to avoid off-road driving.
DRIVING OFF THE ROAD IS STRICKLY PROHIBITED.
Minimise disturbance to animals to avoid wilful obstruction to other park users.
Do not inform another of a sighting through a mobile device, radios and/or cell phones are for emergency purposes only.
Respect the animal’s living space; do not go too close to animals.
The first person at the sighting should be given priority, never block another vehicle.
Always stick/park to the side where the sighting is, to give way to other vehicles.
Slow down to avoid accidents and unnecessary dust when you approach another vehicle head on.*

7 Dagen van te voren boeken om langs de rivier te mogen rijden, gekkenhuis!
@Ramon: Ik zou Savuti en Linyanti proberen als er nog plek is.
Het grote verschil met het Kruger Park is alleen dat dat (voor zover ik weet) alleen maar asfalt wegen heeft. Dat maakt het zo i zo al een hele andere belevenis. Walkie Talkie wag dus ook niet want in die code of conduct stond geen radio contact. Wat je nu gaat krijgen is dat de eerste auto gewoon na de eerste kilometer blijft wachten op de 2e en aan het einde van de route andersom.
Ik ben benieuwd wat het voor Ihaha gaat betekenen. Ik heb daar een nacht geplant en kom vanaf Savuti, denk dat we 's morgens dan maar zo lang mogelijk in dat gebied blijven.

Ik neem aan dat dit is als je vanaf Kasane het park in gaat. Ben benieuwd hoe dat gaat als je vanaf Savuti komt.
Dan geldt precies hetzelfde! Ook via die ingang naar Ihaha.

Kruger heeft ook hele mooie,stille gravelwegen en zelfs 4x4 tracks…
Dit is meer bedoelt voor de touroperators met hun grote open trucks. Voor self drivers zal dit wel loslopen. Denk niet dat ze je hele auto vooraf gaan controleren of je toevallig twee kleine walkie talkies bij je hebt…

Nee, precies, kan moeilijk voor die 2 dagen die dingen weg gooien, kan ze hoog uit inleveren bij de gate maar dat kunnen ze vergeten. Ben erg benieuwd wat me dit extra gaat kosten want aangezien de campsite al geboekt is kan je niet anders dan een route er bij nemen.
Als ik ook lees dat sommige mensen (was wel in de kerst periode) met 70 auto’s om drie leeuwen heen stonden begrijp ik het wel. maar heb zelf nooit meer dan een auto of 10 gezien. Waarvan de meeste van dezelde lodge waren.
I called DWNP this afternoon and I was told that campers at Ihaha can drive freely in the area to the west of Serodela without the restriction of bookings. The area between Serodela and Kasane is subject to the booking restrictions. The new system comes into effect 1 Feb 2012.

Update on the Decongestion Strategy for Chobe Riverfront:
There was another meeting held in Kasane yesterday which was attended by ALL operators (lodges, hotels, mobile operators, transfer companies) and the Chobe Permanent Secretary. The meeting was chaired by Mr Jonathan Gibson (Managing Director of Chobe Holdings). All attendants had an opportunity to raise their issues on the new rules. Basically the new rules came as a huge shock to all, especially the implementation by 1st of Feb. It became clear that the new rules would do more damage than good, especially to the locally owned businesses. The result of yesterday’s meeting was, that the Permanent Secretary was going to call an emergency meeting with the ministry in Gaborone next week. The plan is to postpone the starting date of the new rules until such a time as there has been proper dialogue with stakeholders and a more workable solution to the congestion on the river can be found…
