Thailand’s widely revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world’s longest-reigning monarch, was in hospital for a fourth day on Tuesday where his fever eased further, the palace said.

Thailand’s widely-revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej has remained in a Bangkok hospital for a fourth day after being diagnosed with a fever, fatigue and loss of appetite.

The 81-year-old king has been in a Bangkok hospital since Saturday night when he was put on a drip and given antibiotics after being diagnosed with fever, fatigue and loss of appetite.

“Over the past 24 hours His Majesty’s fever reduced. But he still has a lack of appetite and the medical team is still giving him antibiotics and nutrients intravenously,” the royal household said in a statement read on television.

Thousands of Thais have come to Bangkok’s Siriraj hospital since Saturday to sign a book for well-wishers, officials said.

The ex-wife of Thaksin Shinawatra, Thailand’s deposed former prime minister, went to the hospital on Tuesday with a bunch of white flowers to offer her wishes for the king’s recovery, witnesses said.

The health of King Bhumibol is a highly sensitive topic in Thailand, which has been rocked by three years of protests, riots and political chaos since billionaire Thaksin was toppled in a coup.

The king is a constitutional monarch but has projected an image as the only unifying figure in the country throughout his 63-year reign. In the 1970s and again in 1992 he ordered military regimes to end bloody crackdowns.

King Bhumibol was diagnosed as suffering from “mild fever” in December as he celebrated his birthday, causing him to cancel his annual birthday eve speech.

A third statement on the King’s illness from the Royal Household Bureau said His Majesty had a slightly high temperature yesterday and doctors continued to treat him with antibiotics and intravenous drips.

More than 55,000 people have signed get-well books at Siriraj Hospital where the King was admitted last Saturday.

People nationwide also signed their names on get-well books in their provinces and were praying for his recovery.

Chula Ratchamontri Damrong Sumalsak, who signed a get-well book on behalf of Thai Muslims at the hospital, encouraged Thai Muslims nationwide to conduct ceremonies to pray for the recovery of His Majesty.

He will lead the nationwide ceremonies this Friday.

The King directed Royal Household officials to take garlands that people presented along with their best wishes at the hospital to royal temples.

The flowers presented to the King were sent to other patients at the hospital.

His Majesty, the world’s longest-reigning head of state, who will turn 82 on Dec 5, had a fever, fatigue and loss of appetite when he reached Siriraj four days ago.

His body temperature has returned to normal and the medical team has reduced his intravenous drip and antibiotics intake, the bureau said yesterday in its fourth statement since His Majesty entered hospital.

The King was admitted to Siriraj Hospital on Saturday with a fever, fatigue and loss of appetite.

Meanwhile, senior Phra Sangkhathikarn monks in Bangkok will deliver a prayer on Monday for His Majesty’s health, the Office of National Buddhism said.

The prayer and religious rites will be held at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha at the Grand Palace starting at 4pm.

A similar ceremony will be performed at temples across the country.

The events will be televised.

Members of the public are encouraged to take part by praying and wishing the King a speedy recovery.

They could come to the temples or pray at home.

The Office of National Buddhism has also issued an announcement asking temples around the country to hold morning and evening prayers until the King recovers fully.

His Majesty the King’s appetite is improving and he has no signs of fever, says the Royal Household Bureau in its sixth announcement on the King’s health.

The committee of royal physicians has removed an intravenous drip but continues to give him antibiotics.

The King has also been provided with additional physical therapy _ twice a day, the bureau said yesterday.

His Majesty was admitted to Siriraj Hospital on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the government plans to launch a website for Thais both at home and abroad to wish the King a quick recovery from his illness, PM’s Office Minister Sathit Wongnongtoey says.

Mr Sathit yesterday said he had discussed with the Office of His Majesty’s Principal Private Secretary, the team of doctors treating the King and Siriraj Hospital what content should be on the site.

His Majesty the King’s general condition is good, the Royal Household Bureau says.

The inflammation of his lungs has subsided, but it will take more time for the King to recover from pneumonia, as is generally the case with the elderly, the Committee of Royal Physicians said yesterday.

The doctors have also advised His Majesty to remain at Siriraj Hospital so they can continue to give him medication and nutrition and to provide him with rehabilitation therapy.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand index fell 2%, or 15.20 points, yesterday to 731.47 on concerns about His Majesty’s health.

Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn has confirmed His Majesty the King is recovering from his illness and his condition is not serious.

The princess told an audience at the Thai embassy in Berlin yesterday His Majesty was making steady progress.

Her statement was the first time a member of the royal family had spoken about His Majesty’s condition since he was admitted to Siriraj Hospital for treatment for inflammation of the lungs on Sept 19.

The princess was in Germany to receive the Windaus Medal from the University of Georg-August Gottingen on Thursday in recognition of her role as an outstanding scientist. She left for Germany on Tuesday and will return to Thailand today.

Princess Chulabhorn said the King had a high fever during his first week in hospital which kept him confined to his bed.

“His Majesty was out of strength when he had the high fever. But now his temperature has come down,” she said.

Doctors are keeping a close eye on His Majesty’s health and the condition of his lungs.

X-rays show the fluid in his lungs has cleared up. His heart is also in good shape, she said.

The princess said His Majesty was undergoing physical therapy, which was normal for an elderly person who has spent many days in bed.

The physical therapy is performed so the King can stand up and walk about normally. "The therapy will take some more time. That is why His Majesty has not been discharged from hospital. As far as his condition is concerned, the doctors say there is no danger.

“Now, His Majesty speaks and takes his meals almost as normal. He has a very healthy appetite,” she said.

Princess Chulabhorn said Her Majesty the Queen was always at the King’s bedside. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn also spends the night at the hospital.

The princess said she had also stayed over at the hospital.

"There is a funny moment. I went to see the King at meal time and His Majesty challenged me to an eating duel.

"His Majesty knows that since childhood, I haven’t been fond of vegetables. I don’t take vegetables.

“A spinach soup was served that day and I agreed to the duel … I had one portion of the soup and His Majesty had another.”

The Royal Household Bureau yesterday said the King now only had an intermittent fever. His Majesty has a normal appetite and sleeps well.

X-rays show the inflammation of his lungs has reduced and doctors only take his temperature when needed.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand index fell 2% on Wednesday and 5.3% on Thursday on concerns about His Majesty’s health, but rebounded 3.5% yesterday.

Special Branch Police commissioner Theeradech Rodphothong said the branch was trying to identify the source of the rumours that caused the stock market to dive.

His Majesty the King has appeared in public for the first time after spending more than a month in hospital being treated for inflammation of his lungs.

Hundreds of well-wishers crowding Siriraj Hospital’s compound to check for news updates were given a welcome surprise when they saw the King come down from his hospital ward on the 16th floor yesterday afternoon.

http://www.bangkokpost.com/media/content/20091024/c1_26175_091024035704.jpg

Sitting on a padded electric wheelchair, His Majesty was accompanied by doctors, nurses and security officers.

“Long Live the King,” cheered the people as the King travelled past lines of well-wishers to pay homage to the statue of King Rama V, his grandfather.

Yesterday was Chulalongkorn Memorial Day. The nation commemorated the day when King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) passed away 99 years ago.

Well-wishers, when seeing His Majesty, kneeled to pay their respects. Many were tearful while others yelled out loudly to wish the King a long life.

The King’s unannounced public appearance helped ease the concerns among many people about his health.

“My worries have now disappeared after living with rumours for weeks,” said Prapai Bunsawan, 79.

Like other people who signed a visitors’ book for the King, Ms Prapai urged politicians to stop arguing. Good deeds and a peaceful society would keep the King happy, she said.

His Majesty, who wore a blue shirt, was looking cheerful yesterday. He talked with doctors occasionally as cardiologist Pradit Panjawinin wheeled him round.

Dr Pradit is a director for Her Majesty the Queen’s Cardiac Centre at Siriraj Hospital.

The King also went to pay homage to a statue of Prince Mahidol of Songkhla, his father, and a portrait of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra Boromrajajonani, his mother.He also saw the exhibition of his late mother, held to celebrate the 109th anniversary of her birth on Oct 21, before moving on for a sightseeing tour around many areas of the hospital compound.

Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn says His Majesty the King will be discharged from hospital soon.

The Princess’s remarks were televised on the Television Pool of Thailand.

She said it would take a while for the King to be able to walk. His Majesty is now receiving physical therapy at Siriraj Hospital.

“His Majesty is very resolute and determined to undergo physical therapy regularly, many times a day,” the Princess said.

She said Her Majesty the Queen was constantly at the King’s bedside and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn also spent her nights at the hospital.

Maandag=Geel
Dinsdag=Roze
Woensdag=Licht groen
Donderdag=Oranje
Vrijdag=Licht blauw
Zaterdag=paars
Zondag=Rood

Naar ik meen is dit de volgorde…

En hij is natuurlijk geboren op een maandag (5 december 1927)…dus ook vandaar geel…
