[li]Under the agreement between the Union of Myanmar Government and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand, the following border entrances / exits have been designated as international entrances / exits with effect from 0800 hours on the 28th August 2013 (Wednesday), and those Myanmar and Thai citizens as well as Third country citizens holding valid passport with visa will be permitted to enter and depart from Myanmar;[/li][/ul]

[li] Those who enter/ depart from the aforesaid International entrance/ exits will be permitted to enter/depart from any International entrance / exits of Myanmar; Nay Pyi Taw International Airport, Yangon International Airport, Mandalay International Airport, Tachilek, Myawaddy, Htee Kee and Kawthoung.[/li][li]Regarding the permit of stay, extension of stay and the visa fees, the rules and regulation are the same as before depending on the type of visa for which application has been made to be able to enter Myanmar.[/li][li]Under the current circumstances, Visa On Arrival is not issued yet at the international entrances/ exits as mentioned in the paragraph (1).[/li][li] The Visitors are permitted to travel everywhere except the restricted areas designated by the Ministry of Home Affair in its Notification 77/2013 issued on 15-1-2013 ( The list of restricted areas is available at border entrances / exits )[/li][/ul]
Als je gewoon op de toeristische route blijft (Yangon, Inle Lake, Bagan, Mandalay), zal je geen enkele beperking hebben. Er is geen militaire aanwezigheid en alleen de douane en je hotel zal om je paspoort vragen.
Dus het is nu dan echt mogelijk om overland van Thailand naar Mandalay te reizen? Dat is wel erg goed nieuws!
Ik heb al veel gezocht, maar kan toch niet helemaal zeker het antwoord vinden, maar volgens mij is het nu ook mogelijk om overland naar Mrauk U te reizen. Kan iemand dit bevestigen?
Oh, en de beklimming van Mt. Victoria, kan die zonder permit?
Als reactie op Liekus: Ik heb geen eigen ervaring, maar wat ik van Google begrijp kan je overland vanaf Tachilek niet verder dan Kengtung; de weg verder naar Taunggyi is nog steeds gesloten voor toeristen. Je zult dus een binnenlandse vlucht vanuit Tachilek of Kengtung moeten nemen (iets wat voor augustus 2013 niet mocht als je via land was binnengekomen, maar nu dus wel).
De weg tussen Myawaddy (aan de grens met Mesok/Mae Sot in Thailand) en Yangon is wel voor toeristen toegestaan (directe bussen beschikbaar).
Als reactie op Greaea: volgens wikitravel (in het algemeen up-to-date) is het niet mogelijk overland naar Mrauk U (of Sittwe) te reizen. Dus zit er niets anders op om vanaf Yangon eerst te vliegen naar Sittwe en dan met de boot verder naar Mrauk U.
P.S. Tip: met Google kan je via de optie Zoekhulpmiddelen een periode opgeven, zo krijg je alleen de meest actuele zoekresultaten en verzuip je niet reeds achterhaalde informatie.
