De Thaise premier Abhisit stelt een onafhankelijk onderzoek in naar de gang van zaken rond protesten die het land wekenlang in hun greep hadden. Dat zei hij in een toespraak op de Thaise televisie, waarin hij verder verklaarde dat de orde in Bangkok en 23 onrustige provincies is hersteld.
De anders zo gereserveerde premier deed een emotionele oproep tot verzoening. "We kunnen de schade aan de infrastructuur en gebouw herstellen, maar nog belangrijker is het helen van de emotionele wonden en het herstellen van de eenheid onder de Thaise bevolking. "
Abhisit zei dat hij met het onderzoek de grote verdeeldheid in het land wil stoppen. âLandgenoten, we leven in hetzelfde huisâ, hield hij zijn publiek voor. âOns huis is nu beschadigd. Laten we elkaar helpen.â Hervormingen
De premier kondigde economische hervormingen aan die de verschillen in rijkdom in het land moeten tegengaan.
Duizenden aanhangers van ex-premier Thaksin hielden sinds maart het zakencentrum van de hoofdstad bezet. Ze eisten het aftreden van Abhisit en nieuwe verkiezingen. Woensdag greep het leger in.
Bij de gewelddadigheden zijn de afgelopen weken 83 mensen omgekomen en vele honderden gewond geraakt. Geen verkiezingen
Hoewel de premier eerder had gezegd bereid te zijn om in november vervroegde verkiezingen te houden, repte hij daar nu met geen woord over. De regering had dat aanbod al ingetrokken nadat de roodhemden nieuwe eisen stelden.
De minister van FinanciĂ«n zei dat nieuwe verkiezingen geen optie waren omdat het nog te onrustig was in het land. âDe emoties moeten eerst weer voldoende bedaard zijn voordat kandidaten van alle partijen zich veilig voelen om campagne te voeren.â
De minister zei verder te verwachten dat de economie snel zal herstellen als het rustig blijft in het land. Hij verwacht dat het toerisme de rest van het jaar flink te lijden heeft van de gebeurtenissen van de laatste weken.

Je moet ook al de kosten van de taxi naar soutern busstation rekenen,alsook het ticket en de tijd dat je onderweg bent.
Of je kunt het vliegtuig nemen naar Hua Hin,weet alleen niet of het vliegveld operationeel is voor het moment?

**DEN HAAG - De Nederlandse ambassade in Bangkok gaat maandag weer open als de situatie in de Thaise hoofdstad rustig blijft. Dat heeft het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken vrijdag laten weten naar aanleiding van berichtgeving van de Wereldomroep. **

De ambassade ging dicht toen de spanning tussen demonstranten en het leger begon op te lopen.
Buitenlandse Zaken raadt nog steeds af om naar Bangkok te reizen omdat de politieke situatie instabiel blijft.
Nederlanders in Thailand krijgen het advies zich aan te melden op de website van de ambassade. Zo kan de ambassade hen bereiken als er zich een noodsituatie voordoet.
Wij zijn vorige week toen we nog in Thailand waren, met de zogezegde Mini-van , witte busjes max 10 personen of zo vanaf het zuidelijk busstation naar Hua Hin gereist. Ging prima op tijd, goede Airco.
En de prijs, nou laten we het daar maar niet over hebben.
Ik lees hier dat mensen er 1500 bat of zo voor hebben betaald met een taxi., Nou ik weet het niet zeker maar ik geloof dat wij rond de 180 a 200 bat hebben betaaldâŠ

Wanted United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship core member Suporn Atthawong on Friday morning had his lawyer contact the Crime Suppression Division, saying he would surrender when the emergency law has been lifted.
Mr Suporn, also known as Isan Rambo, disappeared on May 19 before some other UDD leaders surrendered, ending the lengthy protest of the red-shirts. He is wanted on many charges including violating the emergency decree.
His lawyer Thepkorn Intarapat handed Mr Supornâs letter to Pol Col Supisan Pakdinarunart, acting chief of the CSD, on Friday morning.
In the letter, Mr Suporn said he would surrender when the emergency decree had been lifted, and said the governmentâs announcement of the decree was unlawful.
CSD police armed with a court warrant later searched Mr Supornâs house in Khon Buri district of Nakhon Ratchasima province. Mr Suporn was not in the house.
The police found 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a number of UDD scarves.
Another hardcore leader, Arisman Pongruangrong, was reported to be in hiding in Khon Kaen province. The report, which was not confirmed, said he had contacted police and offered to surrender this afternoon.

Op woensdag 19 mei heeft het leger ingegrepen en zijn de protestlocaties van de roodhemden in Bangkok ontruimd. Dit is gepaard gegaan met veel geweld met als gevolg vele doden en gewonden, waaronder buitenlandse journalisten.
Als reactie op de ontruiming hebben de Redshirts (roodhemden) branden gesticht in het centrum van Bangkok. Een aantal warenhuizen waaronder Central World is afgebrand.
Ook in het Noorden en Noordoosten van Thailand is er onrust ontstaan en zijn er overheidsgebouwen in brand gestoken.
Om verder bloedvergieten en ongeregeldheden te voorkomen hebben de meeste Redshirtleiders zich gemeld bij de Thaise politie en zijn zij in hechtenis genomen. De Redshirts hebben de protestlocaties verlaten er is nu sprake van een gespannen rust in Bangkok. Een overzicht van de reisadviezen op 21 mei:

Red-shirt leaders who have been detained at Naresuan military camp in Phetchaburi province do not live comfortably as reported by some local media, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Amnuay Nimmano said on Friday night.
âI went to inform them of their charges and they looked concerned,â he said, adding that some of the charges are terrorism and lese majeste.
He said that the five red-shirt core leaders who surrendered on Wednesday were put in the same room because of the limited space.
The leaders include Natthawut Saikua, Jatuporn Prompan and Kwanchai Praipana.
He spoke after photos of the leaders being visited by their supporters at the military camp were posted on the internet.
Forty protesters who refused to leave the Ratchaprasong rally site as demanded by the authorities were also detained at the camp, he said.

Army Region 2 chief Lt Gen Vivalit Jornsamrit revealed that 19 provinces in the Northeast were now in normal conditions with no further violence as reported in Thai Rath website.
There was no red shirt movement in any area right now. The securities received good cooperation from the people. The police and soldiers have set up check points throughout the night until May 22 during 9pm-5am curfew.
The Army Region 2 have issued orders for 21 red shirt leaders in Isan to report themselves at Suranaree military barrack in Nakhon Ratchasima and some leaders have already come in to report to the authorities.
Meanwhile those red shirt supporters who torched several government offices in 4 provinces will be prosecuted in the court soon, comprising 8 from Khon Kaen, 13 Mukdahan, 45 Udon Thani and 1 Ubon Ratchathani.

Hij beloofde een onafhankelijk onderzoek naar de onrust in Bangkok. Dit onderzoek zal deel uitmaken van een plan waarin ook vervroegde verkiezingen zijn opgenomen.
Abhisit wil alsnog zijn âroadmapâ ten uitvoer brengen. Dit plan werd al eerder bedacht om een compromis met de Redshirts te sluiten. Militairen verdwijnen uit het straatbeeld
Militairen bepalen nu nog het straatbeeld van Bangkok maar dat zal snel verdwijnen. De komende dagen staan in teken van het herstellen van een deel van de schade. Het opruimen van alle barricades en tentenkamp van de redshirts zal ook spoedig worden afgerond.
Het afgebrande megacomplex van Central World kan als verloren worden beschouwd. Het gebouw staat op instorten.

Klopt, 20.00 nog snel even eten in de veronderstelling dat om 21.00 alles weer dicht ging . Om precies 20.45 alle tafels naar buiten ,muziek aan of er nooit iets is gebeurt. Maar er is nog wel veel politie controle door de straten. Ik weet niet wat ik er van moet vinden, Bangkok Post vanochtend alles dicht om 21.00 tot en met zaterdag, voor de ondernemers hier natuurlijk prima. Ik hoop voor iedereen dat het voorlopig rustig blijft, ook al kom je hier vaak en weet je de weg ,het gevoel van onrust wat je hier eigenlijk nooit ervaart heeft toch een groot deel van mijn verblijf hier in Thailand bepaalt.Dinsdag terug naar Bangkok voor een paar dagen als het veilig is om te gaan.

Ben normaliter niet zo een telegrafist maar vond dit stukje wel aardig geschreven.
Mede om het feit denk ik dat de meeste tijd welke wij doorbrengen in Thailand wel van de nodige luxe is voorzien het is ook tenslotte âde vakantieâ, maar bivakkeer toch ook regelmatig in het noordoosten, en moet dan toch al jaren constateren dat het daar toch wel vaak erg schrijnend is gesteld met name op het platteland, complete armoede, slecht onderhoud van wegen, belabberd onderwijs en laat me niet spreken van sommige huisvesting voor zover daar sprake van mag zijn.
Terwijl niet ver weg van deze ellende alle schijn er ligt van een paradijs, tenminste voor onze ogen.
Heb waarschijnlijk daarom nogal eens fel gereageerd op postâs van sommige mede forumleden waarvan ik me wel van kon voorstellen dat mogelijk hierdoor je vakantie in het honderd dreigde te lopen, maar dan mede veroorzaakt ook door mijn emotie hoe slecht het vaak is gesteld met een groot deel v/d bevolking.

Elke ochtend en elke avond horen miljoenen Thai door ontelbare luidspeakers in het hele land het nationale volkslied.
Dat leert hun dat zij een eenheid zijn in vlees en bloed door hun afkomst, religie en hun koning.
De duizenden betogers van de zogenoemde ârode shirtsâ hebben dit beeld op zijn grondvesten doen schudden.
Thailand is in werkelijkheid zeer diep verdeeld. Boze roodhemden riepen dat zij geen âbuffelsââ zijn, oftewel dom, een diepgeworteld vooroordeel dat de middenklasse en elite in Bangkok van hen hebben.
Zij eisen gelijke kansen en een verandering van het politieke systeem, dat volgens hen de elite bevoorrecht.
Veel demonstranten komen uit het minst ontwikkelde noordoosten van Thailand en zijn supporters van Thaksin Shinawatra, de steenrijke telecomtycoon die in 2006 als premier werd afgezet door het leger.
Hij was de eerste leider die beleid voor hen invoerde.
De opportunistische zakenman wist met betaalbare gezondheidszorg en goedkope leningen de steun te krijgen van de armen.
Zijn medestanders wonnen de verkiezingen in 2007, maar een reeks van juridische zaken en straatprotesten maakte een einde aan die regering en bracht de huisige premier Abhisit aan de macht.
De beweging is langzaamaan losgekomen van Thaksin.
Ook linkse activisten en sommige Thai uit de middenklasse die vinden dat bemoeienis van generaals en de elite met de politiek eindelijk eens moet ophouden, hebben zich aangesloten.
Zij konden op steeds meer sympathie rekenen van een groeiend aantal mensen uit de middenklasse in Bangkok, tot het geweld en de vuurzee na het einde van de demonstratie gisteren.
Hun leiders, van wie een deel zich deze week heeft overgegeven, zijn altijd verdeeld geweest.
Een deel was voor vreedzaam protest, maar een groep radicalen meent dat alleen met geweld hun doel kan worden bereikt.
De rust is teruggekeerd in het centrum van Bangkok na negen weken van betogingen en bloedig politiek geweld.
Maar meer gevechten of een grotere opstand dreigen als de regering niet de diepe woede over ongelijkheid kan wegnemen die aan de basis ligt van het protest.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has promised to hold an independent investigation into all crimes during the two-month red shirt rally which claimed at least 85 lives.

In a nationally televised address, Mr Abhisit also vowed to repair divisions in the country by calling for cooperation among all groups.
Thais should pull together to rehabilitate the country and heal the mental trauma in the wake of the riots in Bangkok and other provinces, he said. We have restored order in Bangkok and the provinces of Thailand,'' he said. We will continue to move swiftly to restore normalcy. There are huge challenges ahead of us, particularly the challenge of overcoming divisions in the country,ââ he said.
Mr Abhisit said he felt sorrow at the loss of life and damage resulting from the riots. ``Itâs time for everyone to take part in the rehabilitation process.
[Damaged] buildings and houses can be rebuilt. But the overriding priority is to heal the mind,ââ Mr Abhisit said.
The government and the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation were setting themselves longer-term tasks to deal with the situation after the riots. The most immediate task was to rehabilitate victims of the riots, arson and acts of terrorism, Mr Abhisit said.
As for longer-term measures, he stressed the importance of rehabilitating the nation and healing mental wounds left by the riots.
He would go ahead with the five-point road map for national reconciliation which would include economic, social and political reforms.
``We must work together to design and rebuild our home to make it liveable for everyone,ââ Mr Abhisit said.
Since the first clash on April 10, 85 people have died and 1,378 have been injured. Of the injured, 162 are still in hospital, 16 in ICU.
A picture of detained red shirt leader Nattawut Saikua enjoying himself at the Naresuan base in Cha-am district, circulated widely in the social media yesterday.
Pathumwan police yesterday found the body of a man in zone C on the fourth floor of the gutted CentralWorld. Fire officers said they saw at least nine more bodies in the ruined building but as yet are unable to retrieve them.
Meanwhile, Suporn Atthawong, one of the UDD leaders, yesterday sent his lawyer to hand a letter to police, saying he would surrender only after emergency rule had been lifted.
He said he wanted to fight violence instigation charges brought against him, but under normal circumstances.
Mr Suporn said the declaration of emergency rule was illegitimate.
Tharit Pengdit, chief of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), said the CRES approved a DSI request to prohibit Jatuporn Prompan, another United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship leader, from leaving the country.
As a Puea Thai MP, he enjoys legal immunity. Unlike eight other UDD leaders, he has been charged without detention.
Mr Jatuporn and the other eight UDD leaders turned themselves in on Wednesday and Thursday to face charges of violating the emergency rule decree.
Mr Tharit said police had handed over investigation reports on 115 cases involving acts of terrorism and violence during the riots in Bangkok.

The CRES had approved a proposal by the Justice Ministry to set up a centre for the administration of justice.
The centre will integrate the operations of six agencies _ the Narcotics Suppression Bureau under the Royal Thai Police, the 191 Special Operations Division, the DSI, the Central Institute of Forensic Science, the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Justice Ministerâs Office.
The centre will support the CRESâs work and is responsible for sending rapid deployment forces to deal with emergency situations and to rescue people. The centre can be reached by dialling 1688.
Acting government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said yesterday the CRES had also set up a special task force unit comprising police and military officers, and disaster mitigation staff from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to maintain security and peace in Bangkok and provide initial relief and aid to Bangkok residents affected by the riots.
Mr Panitan said the CRES has also set up a centre to rehabilitate and provide assistance to entrepreneurs and traders affected by the riots. The centre is at the CRES office, in the compound of the 11th Infantry Regiment in Bang Khen.
CRES spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the government will progressively relax some regulations under the emergency decree.
Members of security forces had finished their security sweep of the streets and ground areas which were the scenes of rioting in Bangkok.
Security checks were being conducted at 10 high-rise buildings on Ratchadamri Road, one of the riot scenes, such as the Phor Por Ror building in Chulalongkorn Hospital, Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, Regent House, Ratchadamri Hotel and Nanthawan Building. BMA staff will then conduct further checks.
The CRES has restored electricity and water to areas occupied by the red shirt protesters, Col Sansern said, adding checkpoints will remain on Bangkok streets for some time to ensure security.
Public transport in Bangkok, including buses, boats, BTS skytrain and the MRT underground train, have also resumed.
Once crowded with red shirt protesters, theRatchaprasongintersection is nearly desertedexcept for officials cleaning up.

Prime Minister[Abhisit Vejjajiva](http://www.nationmultimedia.com/home/search/adsearch.php?keyword=+Abhisit+Vejjajiva+)said yesterday that normalcy was returning to the country and that the government would begin to bridge the deep divide as well as heal the emotional wounds of people who were victims of the military crackdown.
âThe government would continue the road map for national reconciliation as announced earlier and we would have an additional plan to repair all the damage brought about by the conflict - mental, economic, social and even political,â he said.
âThe restoration and reconciliation plan needs the intensive participation and cooperation of people from all walks of life. We will help each other rebuild our nation for the happiness of all,â Abhisit said in a televised address.
The military crackdown since late last week has killed 52 people, mostly civilians, and injured more than 400 others while many buildings were burned down by angry protesters.
Abhisit expressed his gratitude to all concerned officials, including rescue workers, who took risks to help the government disperse the red-shirt protesters from the Rajprasong business and shopping centre.
âThis is one of the worst situations the country has ever faced. The government regrets the losses and thanks those who sent supportive messages to the authorities. The decision is to bring the country back to normalcy and maintain the rule of law,â he said.
The immediate task is to ensure the safety and the full restoration of normalcy, he added. In the medium and long-term, restrictions due to the emergency rule will be gradually lifted in keeping with the pace of normalisation.
Prime Minister Abhisit will return to Government House to resume his duties on Monday and conduct the weekly cabinet meeting on Tuesday to build confidence and demonstrate that the situation had returned to normal.
The premier cancelled his plan to visit Russia from June 7-9 to continue overseeing the restoration of normalcy in the country, a government official said.

Government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said the authorities were closely monitoring some armed militants who were still active and would never give up their fight easily. The authorities were worried they would go underground. They might split themselves into small groups or cells to conduct sabotage or assassinations in other provinces, he said.
The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation said yesterday that authorities had conducted inspections of 10 buildings in Rajprasong and nearby areas to secure them from armed militants. The buildings included Rajdamri Hotel, Regent House, Erawan Hotel, Centre Point and Four Seasons, where authorities suspected militants might have been hiding.
The authorities lifted some restrictions to enable restoration of public utility supplies such as electricity and power, said Army spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd.
The centre opened yesterday for registration of business owners who suffered losses during the Army crackdown and riots to claim compensation from the government, he said.
Workers yesterday cleaned up the Rajprasong intersection after officials had finished their inspection and secured the area, said Sansern.
