In order to protect certain species of sea turtles some international NGO’s have put their hands together and started a Sea Turtle Conservation Project. You can have your internship with the management of this project.

General project objective:
The intern will participate in an international conservation tourism program in conjunction with a sea turtle conservation project in Nicaragua. This Sea Turtle
Conservation and Tourism Initiative is designed to enhance the standard of living for persons living in communities near major sea turtle nesting beaches,
while at the same time offering greater protection to nesting turtles and their offspring.

Specific project objectives:
· Create a sustainable source of funding to ensure continuity of the project.
· Generate income for coastal community members in the areas surrounding our project site.
Increase local and international awareness in seaturtle conservation.

General Description:
They are looking for an independent, responsible and highly organized intern to collaborate to the creation/maintenance of an international conservation tourism program that will be conducted in conjunction with their ongoing seaturtle conservation project in Nicaragua. This site is one of the two major nesting rookeries known to exist in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Tourists (i.e. participants) pay a fee to work with the program and are provided room and board at the project sites with the objective to provide unique volunteer opportunities, while generating crucial funding for the project and locals. The intern will oversee some aspects of the program. The Conservation Tourism Program director will provide supervision and help with the overall vision of the tourism program, but the candidate will be expected carry out some activities independently and proactively.

The majority of functions will be carried out in the office of one of the collaborating international NGO’s in Managua, Nicaragua, with programmed visits to the project site where the tourism program has been implemented in Nicaragua (North West Nicaragua)). The intern will report to and coordinate with the
Program Director.

Requirements:
Preference will be given to potential applicants that meet the following requirements:
· Mid-longterm interest (minimum three months) in the position
· Bilingual or very strong ability in both English and Spanish
· Student in tourism, eco-tourism, marketing studies or related fields
· Graphic design skills
· Strong interpersonal communication skills
· Independent, reliable and responsible
· Motivated, positive and adaptable to unexpected situations

Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):

  • Volunteer correspondence (sending necessary forms, responding to questions, ensuring preparation, analyzing program evaluations, etc.).
  • Develop/maintain volunteer recruitment tools, including social media webpages, university announcements, volunteer recruiting agencies, etc.
  • Develop and implement fund raising strategies.
  • Promote turtle tours and other communal tours.
