[li]High risk areas are found in:[ul][/li][li]The southern border states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche (in municipalities in these states that border Guatemala), and Quintana Roo (in municipalities near Rio Hondo that border Belize), with frequent population movements between Mexico and neighboring countries with higher malaria endemicity.[/li][li]The Northwest states of Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Durango, and Sonora, in areas that are less accessible to malaria control activities.[/ul][/ul][ul][/li][li]Areas of lower risk are found in:[ul][/li][li]The Pacific Coast states of Oaxaca, Guerrero, Michoacan, Jalisco, and Nayarit.[/li][li]The Gulf of Mexico states of Veracruz and Yucatán.[/ul][/ul][ul][/li][li]In the 17 other states, no transmission has been reported since 2000; these states are in the process of being declared free of transmission.[/ul][ul][/li][li]No transmission occurs in the urban, major tourist resorts.
