Indonesia to raise transportation tariffs
Posted 25 August 2005 @ 08:17
JAKARTA, 25 August 2005 - Indonesian Minister of Transportation Hatta Rajasa said on Tuesday that land and sea transport tariffs would be raised by an average of between 10 and 20 percent. “The tariff increase will be much lower than 40 percent proposed by the Association of Land Transportation Operators,” Hatta was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying.
The minister explained that the tariff increase could no longer be avoided as transportation owners had been battered following recent fuel price hikes. “It’s already time to adjust the ceilings on transportation tariffs to enable operators to renovate their fleets,” he said. The government has earlier announced the proposed increase of 15 percent in toll road tariff.
