Business related internship vacancy at the Galapagos islands in Ecuador

Organization

This touroperater started in 2007, when two people with a passion met and pieces fell together. He is a native from Galapagos and started working as a fisherman and slowly grow to operating tours for volunteers around the islands. She is from France and worked in tourism on the mainland of Ecuador for over two years. They both saw a niche and met at the right time.

This is an island based company, which wants to promote more the islandhopping tours, day trips, diving courses and surfcamps. They specifically are not focussed on the regular island cruises. The problem with cruises is that they are owned mostly by foreign companies and not even 10% of the amount paid stays on the island. With island hopping, local services are employed (hotel, food, transport, guides, etc) and this is good for the islands as people do not have to engage in other activities (eg shark fishing for Japanese market) to obtain a decent income.

The targetgroup consists mainly on volunteers that are at San Cristobal Island and an upcoming client group are travelagencies in Quito.

Internship possibilities:

• Marketing and publicity: how to profile the agency with national customers (travel agencies) and international travellers
• Company profiling: organization of the business profile and working out a consistent business plan how to develop the tours for the years to come

Besides the project the intern would help remaining time with normal daily activities at the agency, which could include administrative work, helping at the agency, accompanying tours, etc. How the internship activities are proportioned depends on the internship requirements from schools.

Supervision and remarks:

You will supervised by the French manager. Spanish is the language used at the office, but English is the main language used with the clients.
