**Bangkok gets party makeover

Bangkok is sprucing up for the royal celebrations to mark 60 years on the throne by His Majesty the King.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration announced today details of its work to decorate the capital with lights, flowers, flags, fountains and 20,000 fireworks for the celebrations of the diamond jubilee of His Majesty’s ascension to the throne.
BMA director Ninnart Chalitanon said the city will spend 23 million baht on 31 archways along Ratchadamnoen Avenue and landscaping improvements within the inner Rattanakosin Island and adjoinging streets. Workers are putting up fountains in 17 locations around the city.
All work will be finished and beautiful in early June, she added.
During the celebrations, BMA will arrange entertainment shows at Sanam Luang and the other 16 public parks, and set off 20,000 fireworks, she said. (Compiled from Thaisnews)
