Don Muang Airport, de oude luchthaven van Bangkok, gaat op 25 maart weer open, maar alleen voor binnenlandse vluchten. Dat heeft het Thaise Kabinet besloten. De nieuwe, door problemen geplaagde luchthaven Suvarnabhumi blijft internationale vluchten afhandelen. Volgens een regeringswoordvoerder mogen airlines met binnenlandse vluchten zelf beslissen of ze teruggaan naar het 92 jaar oude Don Muang. Tot nu toe heeft Thai Airways toegezegd de domestic routes vanaf Don Muang uit te voeren. Dochter-airline Nok Air verhuist eveneens, terwijl One-Two-Go en PB Air ook terugkeren naar de luchthaven ten noorden van Bangkok, die op 28 september de deuren sloot na de opening van Suvarnabhumi.

Verhuizing van enkele airlines verschaft op Suvarnabhumi de ruimte om gebleken feilen de komende maanden te repareren. Daarbij gaat het voornamelijk om scheuren in taxibanen en een startbaan. Die zijn echter niet van dien aard dat de veiligheid in het gedrang komt.

Airlines die op Suvarnabhumi willen blijven, mogen zowel internationale als nationale vluchten uitvoeren. (Thai)AirAsia is er daar een van.

The cabinet on Tuesday approved the reopening of Bangkok’s 92-year-old Don Muang Airport on March 25 to handle domestic flights while the capital’s new but problem-plagued Suvarnabhumi Airport will handle mainly international travel.

Government spokesman Yongyuth Maiyalarp said the cabinet had decided to reopen Don Muang to handle only domestic flights and it would be up to the airlines themselves to decide which airport they will use.

So far, Thai Airways International (THAI) has agreed to operate its domestic routes from Don Muang as has its affiliate Nok Air and two other privately owned Thai airlines, One-Two-Go and PB Air, Mr Yongyuth said.

Airlines that choose to remain at Suvarnabhumi would presumably be allowed to operate both international and domestic flights.

Don Muang was closed to commercial air traffic on September 28 when the 3.9-billion-dollar Suvarnabhumi was launched.

A host of infrastructural problems at Suvarnabhumi, including 100 cracks found in its taxiways and one of its two runway four months after it opened, prompted the government to give the go-ahead to reopen Don Muang should the new airport be forced to close for major repairs.

An initial investigation into Suvarnabhumni’s cracks, however, revealed that the fissures and ruts were not serious and posed no safety threat.

Suvarnabhumi’s problems have been highly politicised as the massive airport was the pet project of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in a military coup on September 19 on charges of corruption and dividing the nation.

Beste Dave,

Mijn man, zoon en ik gaan op 8 april voor de eerste keer naar Thailand.
9 april komen wij op Bangkok aan en een paar uur later hebben wij een binnenlandse vlucht van Nok-air naar Phuket.
Wat lees ik nu, het oude vliegveld gaat op 25 maart weer open en vanaf daar gaan de binnenlandse vluchten.
Help, hoe kom ik er nu achter of wij naar dat oude vliegveld moeten of dat we toch vanaf het nieuwe vliegveld vertrekken.
Kan jij mij daar aub mee helpen.

Bangkok, 1 March 2007 - Nok Air, the truly Thai low fare airline, dedicated to expanding the flying experience for all travelers, announces its relocation from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Don Muang Airport, with all its scheduled flights operating in and out of Don Muang airport beginning on 25 March 2007.

*Nok Air’s airport office at Don Muang Airport will be located at the Domestic Terminal, with eight check-in counters, counter numbers 27 to 34. In addition, Nok Air will have four ticketing counters, two of which will be located by the Departure Terminal on the second floor, next to the entrance, one will be located next to the Departure Gate, and the fourth at the Arrival Terminal on the ground floor. *

On 25 March 2007, Nok Air’s first three flights will leave Don Muang airport at 6.00 am as follows:

1. Bangkok - Udon Thani, DD9200, departure time is 6.00 am, arrival time is 7.05 am.

2. Bangkok - Nakhon Si Thammarat, DD7804, departure time is 6.00 am, arrival time is 7.15 am.

3. Bangkok - Hat Yai, DD7102, departure time is 6.00 am, arrival time is 7.30 am.

*Although Nok Air will begin its full operations at Don Muang on 25 March, certain will be flights arriving at Don Muang during the evening of 24 March 2007, from various destinations, as follows: *

1. Hat Yai – Bangkok, DD7113, departure time is 7.10 pm, arrival time is 8.40 pm.

2. Hat Yai – Bangkok, DD7117, departure time is 9.30 pm, arrival time is 11.00 pm.

3. Phuket – Bangkok, DD7515, departure time is 6.20 pm, arrival time is 7.45 pm.

4. Phuket – Bangkok, DD7519, departure time is 8.45 pm, arrival time is 10.10 pm.

5. Nakhon Si Thammarat – Bangkok, DD7815, departure time is 10.20 pm, arrival time is 11.35 pm.

6. Chiang Mai – Bangkok, DD8327, departure time is 9.50 pm, arrival time is 11.00 pm.

Nok Air passengers are being informed of flight relocations from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Don Muang airport, and other relevant information, through Nok Air’s CRM, emails, SMS and Call Center 1318.

NokAir zal zijn vluchten dus gaan verplaatsen van Suvarnabhumi naar Don Muang. Als het goed is, zou je daar bericht van moeten krijgen van NokAir.

Je zou ook zelf nog even op de website van NokAir kunnen kijken. Op de homepage zie je links bovenaan staan VIEW YOUR BOOKING.

Thai Airways is begonnen met de verhuizing van spullen die de airline nodig heeft op Don Muang. Daar waren in eerste instantie 27 vrachtwagens voor nodig. Zoals bekend gaat de oude luchthaven van Bangkok op 25 maart weer open, maar alleen voor binnenlandse vluchten zonder aansluiting. Binnenlandse vluchten die aansluiten op vluchten vanuit andere landen blijven normaal plaatsvinden vanaf de nieuwe luchthaven Suvarnabhumi.

Vanaf Don Muang voert niet alleen Thai binnenlandse vluchten uit. Ook Nok Air, One-Two-Go en Oriënt Thai verhuizen naar de 92 jaar oude luchthaven. Thai AirAsia en Bangkok Airways blijven op Suvarnabhumi. De verhuizing is onder meer nodig om op Suvarnabhumi reparaties aan start- en taxibanen uit te kunnen voeren.

BANGKOK - De heropening van de luchthaven Don Muang bij Bangkok is zondag (25 maart) grotendeels probleemloos verlopen. Dat melden Thaise media. De luchtvaartmaatschappijen Thai, Nok Air en One-Two-Go hebben een deel van hun binnenlandse vluchten verplaatst van de nieuwe luchthaven Suvarnabhumi naar Don Muang.

De oude luchthaven werd in september gesloten na de opening van Suvarnabhumi. Maar vanwege problemen op deze luchthaven - er zitten scheuren in platforms en het banenstelsel - wordt een deel van de vluchten noodgedwongen weer uitgevoerd vanaf Don Muang.

Voorlopig gaat het alleen om binnenlandse vluchten, maar mogelijk worden binnenkort ook weer internationale vluchten uitgevoerd vanaf Don Muang.

Op de eerste dag van de hernieuwde vliegoperaties was er sprake van enkele vertragingen. Ook zouden sommige taxichauffeurs passagiers hebben misleid door te zeggen dat alle binnenlandse vluchten vanaf Don Muang worden uitgevoerd.
