From practically any corner of the city, visitors and citizens can admire the largest Gothic Church in Ecuador and all of Latin America. It is one Quito’s most impressive temples, adorned with gargoyles inspired by the country’s wildlife, including armadillos, iguanas, and Galapagos tortoises.The basilica has 24 internal chapels, one for each province. The basilica was inaugurated on January 18th, 1985 by Pope John Paul II in his visit to Ecuador.
