Engeneering stage: Renewable alternative energy in Ecuador

**Description of internship organization:
**
The regional public energy company in Quito has started a renewable energy department in 2012. The goal of this department is to expand the percentage of renewable energy in the province of Pichincha, which currently is less than 40%, to over 75% by the year 2016. Also do they want to substitute the highly subsidized gas, on which now many households and businesses depend for hot water and cooking by cleaner affordable energy.

The main source of this growth will be the opening of an enormous hydroelectric plant in the east of the province in 2016, but the department is also looking for other solutions.

As an intern you can work alongside the staff on projects of pressure energy, bio gas, solar energy projects, electrical car promotion, and more.

For the internship period starting in September there are two specific assignments available:

  • Working on a feasibility study for a eolic park near Quito (wind energy).

  • Working alongside the team that will oversea the implementation of solar energy in remotely located villages in the province of Pichincha.

Internship requirements:

Before starting your internship you must speak at least the basics of Spanish, so you can communicate with your internship guide and coworkers. You can achieve this by taking a Spanish course in Ecuador. You need to be proactive, organized, flexible and willing to adapt to a different culture.
