**Thaksin sells Man City **
(BangkokPost.com, Agencies)

The Premier League confirmed on Monday that ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra is on the verge of selling Manchester City Football Club to an investment group from the United Arab Emirates.

Mr Thaksin will stay on as honorary president of the club without any administrative responsibilities, reports say. Sales negotiations reportedly began three weeks ago. They were completed on Sunday night in the UAE and official papers will be drawn up quickly.

The League finally admitted what had been reported for weeks - that the fugitive former prime minister has been looking to sell Man City because his assets have been frozen and may be seized because of corruption and fraud trials now under way.

The Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUG) has already completed the purchase deal, according to some reports from Manchester.

“Manchester City Football Club can confirm that there are discussions ongoing with the Abu Dhabi United Group Investment and Development Limited with regards to investing in the football club,” a statement on City’s website confirmed.

“A further statement will be released by the club when it is appropriate to do so.”
*Meanwhile, in football news, City sold Croatian full-back Vedran Corluka to Tottenham for an undisclosed fee. *

"I am delighted to be here, Corluka told the club website, “because I am coming to a big club with great players, great ambition and also my best friend [Luka Modric] is here so it is a very happy day for me.”
Thaksin took charge at City in July 2007 but his spell as owner looks to be mercurial.

Just last April, he claimed City would be a Champions League club in another year, and the apparent new owners, known as ADUG, are similarly optimistic.

Sulaiman al-Fahim, an ADUG board member who will represent the group on the Manchester City board, was quoted on the web site
[www.arabianbusiness.com as saying: "We will release details later, but this is a great event for both the club and Abu Dhabi.

"Our goal is very simple – to make Manchester City the biggest club in the Premier League, and to begin with, to finish in the top four this season.
“We will adopt marketing plans that reflect positively on the club and the company from investments in all sectors of television marketing and purchasing of the star players, as well as development of infrastructure facilities at the club.”
