AirAsia adding local flights

Thai AirAsia will increase services on three domestic routes beginning on June 1 in spite of declining travel demand caused by local political unrest, sluggish economic conditions and the low-season factor.
Tassapon Bijleveld, chief executive of the budget carrier, said he was upbeat about traffic demand on the routes, especially from tourists, and the convenient timing of the additional evening flights.
Services will be doubled to twice daily on the Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani and Phuket-Chiang Mai routes, and to daily flights from four times a week on the Phuket-Udon Thani route.
TAA is offering low fares starting from 499 baht all-inclusive 499 per one-way flight to promote the extra services until May 2 for travel between June 1 and Feb 13 next year.
Mr Tassapon also said the airline had no plan to raise fares in spite of cost pressure, even though Thai Airways International has raised domestic fares.
On April 1, the flag carrier started to increase fares, as much as 64% on some routes like Chiang Mai-Phuket, to make up for higher costs, especially fuel, and to reduce losses.
